Huh? Not making any sense? Because of the nature of these little flash fiction vignettes, I thought it would be helpful to index previous back stories and journal entries. Although Artiste’s tales are non-linear, it can help to read some pages in groups by threads of associated content. Of course you could just read them randomly, and trust that it will all come together at some point.
The beginning back story is always a great place to start:
• The Artiste Gullible back story
For this particular installment it also may help to read: (Something random?)

[image]A female anthro, wearing a brown jacket, looking over her with a smile. A road stretches out to the horizon before her.
[text] She often giggled in the detached manner of the clinically
insane, and yet spoke routinely from within the sanctuary of rational thought. Her eyes were dark and mischievous; if she let you see them at all, for she was apt to remain invisible rather than answer the curiosity of strangers.
Her condition, she insisted, was a bi-product of her nature. A duality of persona multiplied in infinite layers.
“Insanity is relative when your brain juice is continually squeezed.” She would remark with an grin. “As a grey whale I am perfectly normal.”
I knew her as a bird, a bat, a ferret and a furry. She could take any form in an instant, on a whim or a dare, mixing and matching genus with ease. The only form she refused to take was that of a rabbit, giant or otherwise.
“Any self respecting Pooka would never take the form of a rabbit … at least, not anymore.” She said, shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot. “It’s so been done.”

I think I must be a pooka! “Insanity is relative when your brain juice is continually squeezed.” What a wonderful statement for a Monday.
So glad to see another post. Hopefully, with the school year winding down you’ll have an opportunity to post more frequently? (makes big puppy dog eyes)
When I first saw this, I read “polka” instead of “pooka”
Maybe Artist will appear next sometime in the distant past, and find her as a giant rabbit?
Fantastic as usual! Always thought provoking. Eagerly awaiting the book! Feature film? I could play the Crenshaw arachnid…..
I guess Harvey gave pookas a bad name?
@TC: And I facepalm again! I would’ve never made the connection!
Yes, it is a Harvey connection. And I’m not sure if Harvey gave them a bad name, but before then Pookas were Celtic goblins, and afterwards; gigantic rabbits. If there was going to be a stereotype, I imagine that being a goblin would be preferred. The truth behind this installment: I challenged a student to draw more “humans,” she challenged me to draw more “anthros.”
Today’s art schools are filled to the brim with anime, big-eyed, manga styled artists with leanings towards gothic anthropomorphic caricatures. I like to challenge my students to break the mold a little. I think it is only fair that I do the same for them.
I can’t remember how I got here but I’m so glad I did.
For what ever reason you drew the little darling, it is genius. The prose is original and beautiful. Great job there.
Darwin and anyone who works with DNA would most likely be in hysterics after meeting a pooka. Mapping the Multiverse would discover many interesting exceptions to our scientific rules.
(I saw “pooka” and thought “Those little guys from Dig-Dug?”)
Haha I read the first few lines and realised that I was thinking about myself.
She sounds like a fun person to hang around with
@ Danelle: She does sound like a fun person. I like peeling onions.
Enjoy the site!
i wonder if she’s tried being oh so pleasant. i prefer that.
