The last three pieces I had written first and then drawn to fit. This piece I thought I would mix it up a bit and draw first then write to fit. So, although I had a really solid drawing, I had no idea where it was going. Then my father and I had a brief discussion about water rights and the western states, and this began to percolate in the back of my mind. What if Edison had tripped across cold fusion and dismissed it? What if, in the steampunk universe, Colt bought the curiosity and leveraged it for handguns and applied it to industry? Freshwater would be the new oil and all of a sudden; I had about 3,000 more words than I needed. Like Krumple Kringle, this idea is rich with spin offs.

Huh? Not making any sense? Although Artiste’s vignettes are non-linear, it can help to read the back story: • The Artiste Gullible back story. Of course you could just read them randomly, and trust that it will all come together at some point.

I had a lot of fun drawing this. While drawing (As is often the case) I like to watch TV programs that I’ve seen a thousand times but don’t mind listening to one more time. It is visual eye-candy that is fun to look up at every once in a while but not distracting enough to knock me off the task at hand. I started out drawing captain Nemo’s ship, but because I was watching Star Trek (TOS) on NetFlix, this mashup was inevitable.

I won’t gripe about the obvious lateness of the post. I will say that I drew this three times. The first rendition of the T-Rex was very Jurassic Park. While looking very real it lacked a certain funness. So I redrew it on my iPad, which forces me to think outside the box a little. I then drew it again a third time with the fun drawing as base. While looking more cartoony then most of my other posts, I love the look of this lizard. If I could have put her in a housecoat and curlers it would have been perfect.

As for not eating our young; Really, asking my sons to grab me a cold-one from the fridge is almost worth the teenage antagonism for standing too close to them in the mall.
